Often, Mendez would be featured either in counter melodic phrases or during introductions and interludes. Recordings like this remind me that there is still no one who can play like him!
Olga's Latin style was a perfect match for Rafael's orchestra and his trumpet style. She soon became known more for movies, having gotten a big boost in popular films with Dorothy Lamour in "Rainbow Island," and then Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire in "Blue Skies."
