If you do this early enough in the application, you'll make your life easier and our life easy, but most importantly you’ve made the spring so it’s safely designed, fits into the application and is going to be cost-effective.

Many, many times we have customers come to us and they’ve already designed their whole product and that’s where it becomes a challenge. We have to look at different types of materials, different types of configurations, you go to a square wire, rectangular wire, but that’s all on the design of the springs.

So you’re given a certain set of parameters but that design process back and forth is really what optimizes the spring design for the application, making sure it’s going to be safe, is a reliable spring based on a certain number of cycles, the corrosion properties needed for the application, and the most cost-effective springs.

Atlantic Spring has got numerous engineers that have many, many years’ experience designing springs. We have computerized programs that design the springs and we take the customer’s application whether it be the OD (outer diameter) or the fit in parameter, the forces required and the length required. We plug all those numbers into the program and it calculates a spring design for us.
