NYCT B74 Bus Ride: 2022 New Flyer XD40 7984 Between Coney Island and Sea Gate (Both Directions)

Video of a ride onboard 2022 New Flyer XD40 7984 on the B74 from Coney Island - Stilwell Avenue (D) (F) (N) (Q) station towards Sea Gate, and back. The B74 functions mainly as a subway feeder route, operating along Mermaid Avenue in Coney Island and straddling Sea Gate along West 37th Street. It is one of the shortest and straightest routes in the NYC bus system (in one direction or its equivalent on loop routes). Only the B39 and B42 routes are straighter. This is also one of several routes to only have one terminal, in this case the Stilwell Avenue station. Most other routes in the system with only one terminal are routes to/from LaGuardia Airport, however the M35 from Harlem to Randalls / Wards Island (and back) also is included.

Ulmer Park Depot along with several Brooklyn Division depots have been the main recipients of these new Xcelsiors. These buses have a full roof enclosure, whereas previous XD40 deliveries have only had them halfway. As a result, these XD40s look similar to the XDE40s, but these are not hybrid buses. Additionally, the back doors on the new XD40s slide outward instead of opening outward. Along with the 2021 XD40s & XDE40s, the 2022 XD40s will replace all remaining Orion VII NG Hybrids at these depots.
