Hundreds of Refugees Leave Budapest on Foot for Austria

A long line formed by hundreds of refugees, possibly over a thousand, began leaving Budapest, capital of Hungary, on foot, marching toward the border of Austria on Friday, after Hungarian authorities spent days preventing them from boarding trains to Germany.
The refugees, who had camped for days in Budapest’s Keleti Railway Station in miserable conditions, shouted the slogan of "freedom" in protest while leaving the country.
Young people were the majority of the crowd, and there were families with children and babies.
The refugees, mostly from Syria, fled the turmoil in their country to seek shelter in Europe.
Hungarian authorities announced Friday evening that it would provide buses for the weary travelers. Then early on Saturday Austria and German announced the decision that the countries would let the refugees in.
Many refugees arrived at the Austrian border by Saturday morning.
