At about 7:45 PM, on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested David Ramgeet, 25, of Dorchester, on firearm charges. Officers were on patrol in the area of 102 Talbot Avenue when they observed a large group congregating on the sidewalk near Harambe Park. Officers also observed an off-highway vehicle (dirt bike) unattended near the group.
Officers exited their marked cruiser and began to walk towards the unattended dirt bike. As officers were approaching the dirt bike, several members of the group yelled for someone to get on the dirt bike. Officers observed a male running towards the dirt bike, and told him multiple times to stay away. The male disregarded officers’ orders and attempted to get on the dirt bike to flee the area.
Officers were able to gain control of the suspect before he could flee, and a violent struggle ensued. An unknown female attempted to intervene with the arrest, and tried to gain control of the suspect’s fanny pack. The suspect continued to yell for someone to take his bag, but officers were able to place the suspect into handcuffs. As officers searched the suspect, they recovered a firearm from the fanny pack. The firearm was later determined to be a Polymer Ghost gun with one round in the chamber and eleven rounds in the magazine.
Ramgeet was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device, assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest. He was arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
