Docol PHS 2000 is the result of a close collaboration between SSAB and automotive component manufacturer Gestamp. The goal of the joint development project was to find an even lighter and cost effective solution for a bumper component – which it did. Upon project completion, Docol PHS 2000 helped achieve a 17 percent weight reduction compared to similar bumpers.
Docol PHS 2000 maintains crash ductility, while other mechanical properties such as yield strength and ultimate strength have been significantly improved. This means that it is especially useful for components like B-pillars, rockers, bumpers, and BIW structural components requiring high strength and complex geometries.
