On the Second Sunday of Lent, reflecting on the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor, Fr. Terrance shares how God gives moments of spiritual sweetness to strengthen us for the bitterness of suffering, especially as we journey toward Calvary. These “mountain experiences” of consolation, like retreats or profound prayer, are not meant to be permanent experiences in this life, but they help to transform us so we can return to daily life more Christ-like and bring light to the world. Father also emphasizes that while God loves everyone infinitely, He draws some souls closer in a special way, and rather than envying them, we should grow in humility, gratitude, and trust. Great sinners, too, are potentially great saints, and recognizing this helps us remain humble and hopeful, acknowledging that even our good works are ultimately God working within us. Finally, the Transfiguration reveals Jesus as the new and greater Moses—like Moses on Sinai yet surpassing him—confirming that Christ is our divine Son and Savior who leads us from sin into the heavenly Promised Land.
