We launched into the Alaskan backcountry with a pair of modified Cessna 170Bs, chasing airstrips we’d only seen on maps. It started like any other day of bush flying...clear skies, remote terrain, and a rough idea of where we wanted to explore. But out here, things don’t always go as expected.

No cell service. No help nearby. Just two airplanes, two pilots, and one unexpected mechanical problem.

Oh, and speaking of Flight Training... If you try to learn to fly from YouTube, you might end up on the news (and not in a good way). I have thousands of hours flying airplanes and helicopters, and I take every precaution to limit risk, especially in Alaska, where things can get serious fast. Off-airport flying isn’t something you just ‘try out’...Get proper training from a CFI (Like those at Fly8MA) before you even think about it!
