My Golden Child little sister tried to un alive me because I took away her Spotlight at my wedding so I put her in jail for a 12 year sentence.
My younger sister Mia was born when I was three years old. She came into this world fighting for her life – born two months early and flatlining six times in her first week. My parents were so terrified of losing her that when she finally came home, they treated her like a fragile porcelain doll who could do no wrong. And that's where my nightmare began.
Growing up, every single celebration became Mia's show. My seventh birthday? She threw herself on the floor screaming until my parents let her blow out my candles. My high school graduation? She faked being sick so my parents had to stay home with her instead of coming to watch me walk across the stage. Every boyfriend I brought home would mysteriously start asking about my "cute little sister" within a week. It was like I was invisible in my own family.
By the time I turned nineteen, I couldn't take it anymore. I applied to colleges three states away and got a full scholarship to study in California. For the first time in my life, I was free. That's where I met David, a kind, funny guy who saw me for who I really was. His family welcomed me with open arms during holidays when I couldn't afford to fly home. They celebrated my achievements, remembered my birthday, and made me feel like I actually mattered.
After five years together, David proposed, and I said yes immediately. When we started planning our wedding, David insisted we invite my family. "They need to see what an amazing woman you are," he said. "Maybe it's time to give them another chance." Against every instinct I had, I sent the invitations. My parents RSVP'd yes, and so did Mia, who was now twenty-two and apparently still living at home.
The wedding day arrived, and everything was perfect. I walked down the aisle in my grandmother's vintage dress, seeing David's huge smile waiting for me at the altar. I spotted my parents in the fourth row, and there was Mia, fidgeting and looking annoyed that she wasn't the center of attention. During the ceremony, I actually forgot about all the years of pain. I was finally getting my happy ending.
The reception was in full swing when Mia approached me for the first time all day. She was carrying two glasses of champagne and had this strange smile on her face – not the fake sweet smile she used to manipulate our parents, but something different. Something that made my skin crawl. "Congratulations, big sister," she said in a voice that sounded almost... sincere? "I brought you some champagne to celebrate. I even made a special toast just for you."
She handed me the glass, and I noticed her hands were shaking slightly. The champagne looked normal, but something about her behavior felt off. Still, I didn't want to cause a scene at my own wedding. "To my beautiful sister," she said, raising her glass, "and to finally getting what we both deserve." I took a sip, and immediately noticed it tasted strange – bitter and sharp, not like any champagne I'd ever had.
Within minutes, my throat started tingling, then burning. My vision became blurry, and I felt like I couldn't catch my breath. That's when absolute terror hit me – I'm severely allergic to strawberries, and my throat was swelling shut. I looked at Mia in panic, and she calmly reached into her purse and pulled out a fresh strawberry, holding it up with a satisfied smirk. "Oops," she whispered, "did I forget to mention I added something special to your drink?" While I collapsed, gasping for air, she walked away and started chatting with David's groomsmen like nothing was happening.
David found me convulsing on the floor and immediately called 911. The paramedics had to use three EpiPens to stabilize me, and I spent our wedding night in the ICU instead of on our honeymoon. When the police interviewed me the next morning, I told them everything. They found strawberry residue in my champagne glass and arrested Mia for attempted murder. My parents called me a liar and said I was jealous of Mia's success, but the evidence was overwhelming. After a two-week trial, Mia was sentenced to twelve years in prison. She finally got the attention she always craved – from a judge and jury who saw her for what she really was.
Some people say blood is thicker than water, but sometimes the most dangerous person in your life is someone who's supposed to love you.
