Описание: The saga: Lagertha is a legendary Viking shieldmaiden known from Saxo Grammaticus’ 12-13th-century saga Gesta Danorum (Book IX). She first rises in reputation when King Frø of Sweden invades Norway and kills the Norwegian king, Siward. According to the saga, Frø subjects the women of the slain king’s family to public humiliation, but Lagertha takes up arms and fights back to defend her people and her honor. Her bravery and martial skill quickly become well known and word spreads of a fierce female warrior in Norway.

Ragnar Lothbrok, who the saga mainly follows, hears of her courage, seeks her out and then proves his own gumption by confronting a bear and a hound guarding her home. Lagertha is impressed by this and agrees to marry him (I mean, fair). She accompanies Ragnar on military campaigns, notably in the conflict against the Swedes, where her fighting skill is said to play an important role in securing victory. The saga portrays her as an equal partner in battle to the men, truly showing the nature of the Shieldmaiden (Saxo Grammaticus, saga Gesta Danorum, IX).
