CCP "Neo-colonialism" in Africa Faces Obstacles

The external aid the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) gives to Africa has been growing year on year. China has become Africa's biggest trading partner. However, Chinese have been increasingly marginalized by local African people. Cases of Chinese workers being attacked, robbed, and even killed have often happened in Africa. Some, working in Africa for a long time, are even afraid to admit that they are Chinese. What's wrong with the CCP's policy towards Africa? Let's see the analysis and report.

According to a statistics report from a U.S. research institute, the CCP regime offered external aid to 1673 projects in 51 African countries from 2000 to 2011,with a total value of $75 billion.

Western media call such generous aid without attaching any political condition "neo-colonialism."

Beijing political observer Hua Po indicates that one of the purposes for the CCP to assist African countries unconditionally is to get votes at the United Nations.

Hua Po, Beijing political observer: "When the CCP entered the United Nations, Mao Zedong said 'We were carried to the UN by African black brothers.'The UN has a principle of equality that says all the countries are equal no matter how big or small they are. Thus, small countries also have their own votes."

However, the CCP's generosity doesn't get favor from Africans in return. Some Africans even hate Chinese, leading to frequent cases where Chinese workers in Africa were attacked, robbed, and killed.

A Chinese-run sugar plant in Madagascar had a riot on Dec. 12, causing 6 deaths. Over 20 Chinese managers in the sugar plant have left. Their houses were also robbed.

Agence France-Presse quoted from a worker representative at the sugar plant, "The country must look for other cooperators. If the managers are changed, we'd like to resume work. Anyone is OK as long as they are not Chinese."

In fact, violent cases targeting Chinese have happened many times in Africa.

7 workers at a Chinese company in Zambia the Point and Lime Technologies were attacked by robbers in February. One worker was killed. In June, Kenya police arrested 77 Chinese for alleged financial fraud.

A Chinese who works in Africa year round posted online: "I've never felt that our country is strong. Black people only dare to treat Chinese like that, only dare to rob Chinese. They know that no one would take charge if Chinese are robbed or killed. It would bring big trouble if they kill an American. Many of us do business there, and we tell people that we are Japanese and Korean."

It's bad news for millions of Chinese working in Africa.

China issue researcher living in the U.S. He Anquan indicated that CCP investment in Africa is likely to be in dirty trades. The CCP cares how much resources it can get, or to gain status and reputation in the international world. It doesn't care for life and environment of African grassroots.

He Anquan: "Western countries consider China's investment in Africa a new colonialism, or plunder of local resources. Western public opinion also influences local public opinion."

Hua believes that the CCP's "aid" projects excessively pursue economic interests. It's not politically accountable, and also bribes the authorities. To gain resources and minerals, it sacrifices the resources and environment. It's not strange that such colonialist action causes local people's resentment toward the Chinese.

Some incidents show that China's demand for African resources damages the environment. Some are even fatal.

Save the Elephant and the Aspinall Foundation published joint report that says over 100,000 elephants were killed between 2010 to 2012, and the elephants' future is in the hands of Chinese. Founder of Save the Elephant, Iain Douglas-Hamilton said, "If Chinese leadership doesn't end the demand for ivory, African wild elephants will disappear in the next generation."

Environmental Investigation Agency also pointed out that when the CCP regime president Xi Jinping visited Tanzania last March, the CCP delegation members purchased a large amount of ivory, packed in diplomatic pouch, and transported on Xi's private plane.
