I've been renting and testing equipment -- and here's an auto-focus test I've been meaning to try. The Canon R6 Mark II (along with many other cameras) includes auto-focus tracking for vehicles.
The first three clips are manually-focused on a set of traffic lights. The much longer fourth and fifth clips use the camera's auto-focus vehicle tracking setting.
In the last two clips, I did not select individual vehicles to track -- and instead, let the camera choose. Where several moving vehicles appear in all frames (often traveling in opposite directions), the camera is severely challenged with the task of when to switch its attention. All the same, the longer locked-on tracking sequences suggest what a selected targeting lock might look like.
For this test, I am using a Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary lens set to f/8. The video was recorded at 10-bit 'HDR' 60 fps (down-sampled from the camera's full-frame sensor to UHD). The camera's video recording data rate was only 174Mbps (the lowest setting for HDR 60 fps in this camera -- though no obvious hit to video quality). To produce this 8-bit MP4 video for Youtube, I processed the original data using Divinci Resolve 18.
FTI - The ambient lighting in the video is a bit odd because the actual lighting was a bit odd.
IMHO - Playing this YouTube video at 0.5 speed offers added time to inspect subtle details.
Enjoy!
