Is artificial turf a better alternative to natural turf grass to reduce nutrient impacts to our waterways? To learn more watch this Water Ambassador Lunch and Learn webinar presented by Drs. Jason Kruse and Marco Schiavon from the University of Florida.
Dr. Kruse is an Associate Professor in Turfgrass Science at UF. He received his B.S. degree from the University of Idaho, his M.S. degree from the University of Florida, and a Ph.D. from Iowa State University. His work has focused on nutrient and water management in both warm- and cool-season grasses including the evaluation and use of site-specific management practices as a means of improving turfgrass health while reducing inputs.
Dr. Schiavon is an Assistant Professor at the UF IFAS Fort Lauderdale Research & Education Center in Broward County. After completing his PhD in agronomy at New Mexico State University he moved to California where he spent seven years as a researcher, before moving to University of Florida. Dr. Schiavon's research and extension programs focus on environmentally compatible strategies for turfgrass management. His lab investigates potable water conservation strategies for turfgrass areas, including, but not limited to: use of drought resisting cultivars, deficit irrigation, use of alternative sources of irrigation water (e.g. effluent water), and use of wetting agents. He collaborates with researchers, resource managers, biologists and industry leaders to address current and future issues that are important for creating and maintaining healthy turgrass systems.
