WINNERS CELEBRATE THEIR OSCARS AT GOVERNORS BALL
Here are some notes and quotes from Oscar winners at the 83rd-annual Academy Awards' only official after party, the Governors Ball:
--Susanne Bier, director of Denmark's foreign-language feature entry, "In a Better World":
"It means that if a tiny country of five-million people can win this, it's like a real honor... it's like a real, amazingly huge big . . . I'm expressing myself very badly now. I'm just exhilarated."
--Aaron Sorkin, writer of "The Social Network": "Well, it feels fantastic to be part of a long line of writer who have run this before me. And I think that the important thing is that tomorrow morning will be Monday morning and you have to go back to writing, and do good stories well told."
Will it be a little easier having the little gold guy overlooking the computer?
"I hope it isn't harder," Sorkin replied. "So, I'm going to put it behind me, so I don't see it while I'm writing."
--David Seidler, writer of "The King's Speech": "It's quite surreal. You think about it. You imagine it. And then it happens and it's . . . This is quite different from what I imagined. It's slow motion. It all goes into slow motion. It's very strange. Wonderful, wonderful."
--Tom Hooper, director of "The King's Speech," on winning the Oscar for "The King's Speech" and support from friends, family and fans in England: "I've just been so proud and pleased to get so many texts and e-mails of support. I did kind of feel some pressure today, so that I'm holding this is my hands is fantastic."
--Emile Sherman, producer of "The King's Speech":
"I think, as well, we need to remember that this is an independent movie. And to have a relatively small independent film - England, Australia winning the Academy Award for best film. I mean, this is an extraordinary moment. And it shows how these things can happen. You can make a film as an independent producer, and it can go hundreds of millions of dollars 'round the world and it can win the Academy Award. So, cheers."
--Lee Unkrich/Director of "Toy Story 3," winner of best-animated feature:
"It has been incredible. It's been a tiring year, but it has been the best year of my life. When we were making this movie, we were hoping it would be good. We were hoping it wouldn't disappoint anybody. But we never, in a million years, dreamed that anything like this would happen at the end of our journey."
--Randy Newman, on his Oscar win for best song, "We Belong Together," from "Toy Story 3": "It feels good. You know, you never quite get used to anything like that. The whole event is so weird. I mean, really. I'm not impervious to all these celebrities. Helena Bonham Carter, I met the other day, it was like a big deal. And, so, I'm a sucker for it, I guess. I wouldn't have thought so. It's a big deal, and I'm happy."
