💥Excessive Heel Strike💥 refers to the initial contact of the heel with the ground during the gait cycle. It marks the beginning of the stance phase of running, where the foot makes contact with the ground to support body weight and propel forward motion.
Aggressive heel striking is not ideal as it causes overstriding and increases hip, knee, and ankle flexion rapidly and sometimes excessively. However, runners can heel strike closer to their COM and it may not cause problems. Research shows there are similar injury rates among rear foot and forefoot strikers, however their injuries appear in different areas.
