The original jetty was built 1880 at Bass Point NSW and used to ship basalt to Sydney and Melbourne. Work was abandoned later on in 1939 and the jetty was later destroyed in a storm and heavy seas in 1957.
South Coast Basalt reopened the quarry and rebuilt the jetty in 1973 which remain today but is now disused and closed off.
Fishermen sometimes used the jetty and fish off it as there is an abundance of marine life and big fish under the jetty.
Scuba divers have also made good use of the jetty and is now a prime spot to scuba dive. You will see sharks, cuttlefish and numerous difference species of fish and marine life.
Parking and toilets are located in the start of Bass Point and further in the park.
