300: Rise of an Empire is a 2014 epic action film directed by Noam Murro. The film is a sequel to the 2006 film 300, which was based on Frank Miller's graphic novel of the same name. The film takes place before, during, and after the events of the first film, depicting the Battle of Artemisium and the Battle of Salamis.
The film stars Sullivan Stapleton as Themistokles, an Athenian general who leads the charge against the Persian invasion. Eva Green co-stars as Artemisia, a ruthless Persian naval commander who seeks revenge against the Greeks for the death of her family. Lena Headey, who starred in the first film, also returns as Queen Gorgo of Sparta.
The film also features an original score composed by Junkie XL, including the track "Marathon" which was used as the film's main theme and it was praised for its epic and powerful sound.
