Furthermore, it has been made mandatory for officials to physically verify the PAN card, just as Aadhaar cards are verified. The Income Tax Department is also taking a very strict stance on this matter. In a letter to the Inspector General, Rupesh Agarwal, Additional Director of the Income Tax Department, raised serious questions about the functioning of registration offices in Bihar. The investigation revealed that out of the 137 sub-registrar offices in Bihar, 83 have not yet registered to file Form 61, which is mandatory. Moreover, even the 54 offices that have registered have not shared any information with the Income Tax Department through Form 61, despite major transactions exceeding Rs. 10 lakh. This negligence could now prove costly for the officials. According to income tax rules, in cases where a PAN card is not available, it is mandatory to send information to the Income Tax Department twice a year through Form 61 #landregistrybiharnewrules . Reports for transactions between April and September must be submitted by October 31st, and for transactions between October and March, by April 30th. Failure to comply could result in action against the concerned officials.
