BRUCE: But we are inspired by characters, in this case, pretty broad, cartoony kinda characters. You might pick, you know, your favorite character from Adult Swim and start there if you're working outside in. That is to say, the physical affectation, voice, and all that stuff, versus the actor's work inside out. That's fine. I would then encourage you to do this a bunch of times over a period. So that you eventually you have, like those of us who do character work professionally, 30-40 characters on file. Somebody says the nerd, you know, well, I've got five different colors. Uh, the boss, that's okay too: "Soldier! Huh!" or whatever, and it's just there. Chef, want a chef? "No problem, we can use zis, zis way, uh?" Russian gangster. Does not matter. This is your goal. You start at the base of the pyramid, and you build. Listen, watch, you can take it from real people, how they walk. That guy's got a funny walk, and he talks funny! Whatever! Start building a catalogue of characters. It'll serve you well in the future!
