Mayang, located in the Morigaon district of Assam, is a small village that has long been known as the “Land of Black Magic.” For centuries, there have been beliefs and stories that black magic and tantric practices were performed here.

Today, we tried to explore Mayang to find out the truth. Is black magic really practiced here? Or is it just a myth?

We visited different locations in Mayang and spoke with local people to understand the reality. From our conversations, we came to a conclusion that in ancient times, black magic might have been practiced here. Even today, some locals believe that such practices may still exist.
However, black magic is not something you can simply go and see at a specific place. If someone truly practices it, only they can demonstrate or confirm it. Unfortunately, we could not find any such person. The locals were unable—or perhaps unwilling—to give us specific details about who practices it or where it happens.

So, while the mystery remains, there is no direct evidence that visitors can easily witness.

Apart from its mysterious reputation, Mayang also has some interesting places to visit. There is an ancient Ganesh temple, a Shiva temple located on a hilltop, and a traditional museum that preserves historical manuscripts and artifacts related to the region’s past.
