The *Aadhaar Data Leak* has once again exposed how vulnerable our digital identity can be.
Recently, millions of Indian citizens’ Aadhaar-linked records were allegedly **found on the Dark Web**, being traded and sold by hackers.

Imagine this 👇

Your Aadhaar details, phone number, and address being sold online.
Hackers using that info for SIM swaps, fake KYC, or opening bank accounts.
All this — without you even knowing your data is out there!

🕵️ What actually happened?

According to multiple cyber-intelligence reports, a dataset containing *Aadhaar numbers, voter IDs, phone numbers, and other PII* was leaked due to:

**Misconfigured government or third-party servers**.
*Poorly protected backups* stored on cloud drives.
*Phishing and insider leaks* from vendors handling Aadhaar-based verification.
Once this data hit the **Dark Web**, it spread across multiple hacker forums — easily accessible to cybercriminals.

🔒 How to protect yourself

✅ Don’t share full Aadhaar photocopies — use the *Masked Aadhaar* option from [UIDAI.gov.in](https://uidai.gov.in)
✅ Always verify the *URL* before uploading your Aadhaar
✅ Never click links asking for “KYC update” or “Aadhaar verification”
✅ Enable bank/SIM transaction alerts
