Three companies are racing to build the lunar rovers that NASA's Artemis astronauts will use to explore the South Pole of the Moon. We sat in the driver's seat of the prototype vehicles to see who is in pole position to win the lucrative NASA contract.
There are three primary companies vying for the contract:
• Intuitive Machines - Moon Racer
• Lunar Outpost - Lunar Dawn (a.k.a. Eagle)
• Venturi Astrolab - FLEX (Flexible Logistics & Exploration)
Later this year, NASA will decide which company will get to proceed with their rover, backed by the agency. At the 40th Space Symposium, Spaceflight Now Reporter Will Robinson-Smith caught up with all three companies to learn about their designs, what makes them unique and how they're confronting the challenges presented by NASA in this new era of sustained human presence on the Moon.
