Описание: Hello friends! Today we will made our way to Chiang Rai, Thailand. Chiang Rai is the northernmost province of Thailand and located within the area known as the Golden Triangle where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar (Burma) meet.

Chiang Rai was founded in 1262 and was the first capital of the Lanna Thai Kingdom. It was conquered by Burma and came back to being a Thai territory 1786. Chiang Rai became a Thai province in 1910 after the Kingdom of Lanna Thai was incorporated into Thailand.

The province has beautiful mountain scenery, ruins of ancient settlements,
historic sites, Buddhist shrines, ethnic and hill tribe villages, but the most popular attractions are the White Temple (Wat Rong Khun), Blue Temple (Wat Rong Sue Ten). Today we will visit both as well as the Temple of the Goddess of Mercy(Wat Huay Pla Kang).

The White Temple (Wat Rong Khun), Blue Temple (Wat Rong Sue Ten) are relatively new attractions. Both were old neglected temples that were rebuilt by artists and transformed into magnificent masterpieces. They were opened to the public in 1996/97. The delicate detail, artistry and craftsmanship that went into the design of the temples are unique and an absolutely a must-see!

The Temple of the Goddess of Mercy (Wat Huay Pla Kang) is a contrast to the White and Blue Temples with its calming, peaceful vibe. The statue of the Kuan Im is the largest in Thailand. She is the “Bodhisattva of Compassion”, a being who achieved enlightenment but remained here in the physical world to help the rest of humanity. Tthe structures in the complex is a mix of Lanna Thai and Chinese styles. The temple takes care of more than 500 orphans. Bags of rice can be bought and donated.

Chiang Rai s 3.5 to 4 hr drive from Chiang Mai. There are plenty of tour agencies that offer a 12 hour trip for about ฿1500 (approx. $42) per person on a shared van, but we decided on a private taxi tour for ฿4000 (approx. $112). The Green Bus is also an option for just transportation to the city. Please enjoy our wanderings today!
