Chlorine will reduce the service life for any plastic that it contacts, as well as metals within items like a pool heater. The rate of deterioration is very fast and if you add chemicals through your pool skimmer regularly you should expect to experience early equipment failure for all of your filtration equipment. Chlorine should only be added through an erosion feeder or by manually adding to the pool...being sure to avoid adding it through the skimmer.
