built between 100 - 300BC the Yamchun Fort was the primary stronghold of the Kushan Empire, who were in control of vast areas in this part of the world for 300 years. The Kushan Empire took in parts of China, much of Pakistan, Afghanistan and huge portions of Northern India as well as Central Asia.
It has the best position for looking over the Wakhan Valley (more importantly the lucrative Silk road trade that plied this route) and the Hindu Kush.
