Wax moth caterpillars ruined my beautiful comb 😭
Annoying little buggers!
A wax moth snuck into my dying hive (it was a drone layer) layed it's eggs which hatched into tiny caterpillars. These caterpillars then chewed through the wax to find pollen and pupal caccoons to eat.
As they crawl through the wax they leave spider-like silk behind, they also use this silk to form their own cocoons to pupate into adult moths
Wax moth don't kill hives, if your hive is overrun by wax moth you had much bigger problems before that 😬
They ruin beautiful expensive beeswax! When storing your wax comb, freeze it overnight first to kill any larvae and eggs then store it in a moth proof container or in a cool, draughty place as the larvae like it warm
