Basketo(ባስኬቶ) people of Ethiopia
The Basketo people are an Omotic-speaking ethnic group whose homeland lies in the southern part of the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Region (SNNPR) of Ethiopia. The Basketo special woreda is named after this ethnic group. According to the 2007 Ethiopian national census, this ethnic group has 78,284 members, but the population is increased to 117,000, of whom 99.3% live in the SNNPR.
The Basketo cultivate ensete and, additionally, tuber roots, maize, millet and vegetables. They also keep domestic animals in small numbers.
Traditionally, the Basketo were organized as a segmentary clan society headed by a divine king, the kati. The ethnic religion of the Basketo knew a duality of the sky-god Tsosii and the earth-mother Qacharunde. Under Ethiopian rule many of them converted to Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity.
The Basketo were conquered for the Ethiopian empire by Ras Welde Giyorgis in 1893(unconfirmed).
North Omo split up in 2000 into the Gamo-Gofa Zone, Dawro Zone, Wolaitta Zone and two autonomous districts Basketo and Konta.* Due to political reasons unknown to me, not all Baskeet-speaking people were integrated into the Basketo Special Woreda but quite a few Baskeet neighbourhoods (their exact number is still to be investigated) became part of the Melokoza Woreda of the Gamo-Gofa Zone.
The Basketo Special Woreda is divided into 32 neighbourhoods (kebeles). A list of the neighbourhoods is given in the following.**

Gamo Gofa Zone and the Galila Woreda of the South Omo Zone)
Laska/ላስካ, the capital of the Basketo Special Woreda, is divided into two neighbourhoods:
Laska Baakkalla/ላስካ ባካላ (i.e. the lower / Southern part of the town)
Laska Simba/ላስካ ሲምባ (i.e. the upper / Northern part of the town)
The resettlement areas in the Western lowlands of the Basketo Special Woreda are divided into the following nine neighbourhoods:
Gaara-Hadiyya/ጋራ ሃዲያ
Gaara-Wolaitta/ጋራ ዎላይታ
Gaara-Baskeet/ጋራ ባስኬት
Angila 1/አንግላ 1
Angila 2/አንግላ 2
Angila-Konso/አንግላ ኮንሶ
Bunibas 1/ቡኒባሳ 1
Bunibas 2/ቡኒባሳ 2
Bunibas 3/ቡኒባሳ 3
A decade of years ago,**** families from densely populated areas in #Hadiyya, #Konso and #Wolaitta and from the highland areas of the Basketo Special Woreda were allocated plots in the resettlement areas. Currently, large plantations by outside investors are being developed in the lowlands in the Western parts and to the West of the Basketo Special Woreda; these areas were traditionally used by the neighbouring Bodi/ጶዲ people as grazing land for their cattle.
Unfortunately, maps are very hard to come by in Ethiopia. Apart from a hand-drawn sketch map that I cannot share, I was unable to get a map showing the boundaries of the neighbourhoods of the Basketo Special Woreda mentioned above.
Now a day Basketo's Admin is Samuel Desalegn Woldemariam.
The following new music video is preformed by Chuchu Abayneh. His former single track was Koyambar/ኮያንባር and this one is Babake/ባባኬ
