This reflected an increase of 11,9% between 2020 and 2021 Around that same year of 2021, ‘animals and animal products’ in SA generated the largest agricultural sales at (R159,3 billion) $8,8bn, followed by ‘horticultural crops and products’ (R110,4 billion) and ‘field crops’ (R81,4 billion).

Why am I giving you these numbers, well they are important for us to understand how important agriculture is and also how devastating criminality of stock theft is to the country.

Beneath the surface of places like this lies a persistent and devastating problem: stock theft. Now this crime, often overlooked, but it has far-reaching consequences for the country's economy and the livelihoods of its people, especially in provinces like the EC.

But this problem even though it is pronounced in the EC, it is a country wide problem that has far reaching socio-economic effects.
