We had so much video and photographs from our travels last fall that it resulted in us putting a few of the visited locations aside so that we could share newer videos from Iceland and some local US spots. So we are turning back the calendar to November 2023 to share a photography session from the Dark Hedges in Northern Ireland. This video was filmed on November 4, 2023.
We actually visited the Dark Hedges twice. We first checked it out on a dreary, rainy morning. Then we returned the following morning at sunrise, with hopes that we might get some foggy conditions. This turned out to be a surprisingly busy spot even in early November when one might expect very little tourist traffic. So, our filming was a bit limited since we don't want to be obnoxious social media videographers and photographers.
For those who are Game of Thones fans, you might recognize the location as 'The Kings Road' (Season 2). The 'hedges' are a result of the beech trees that were planted along Bregagh Road near the entrance to the estate built by James Stuart in 1775. Originally, there were 250 trees. Now there are approximately 90 remaining. Many of the trees have died or been blown down by storms. So if your visit, you will notice that there are now bare patches along the route. The road is now restricted to pedestrian traffic only in an effort to protect the roots that run underneath the road.
We hope you enjoy the video.
