I rode the Super Hakuto train from Kyoto, Japan to a small city called Kurayoshi in Tottori Prefecture. The train has been in service since 1994, and has exquisite touches like real wood seat backs and even a vending machine on board. Also, its maximum speed is 130 kph (81 mph), making it Japan's fastest limited express train. The Super Hakuto goes through mostly Hyogo, Okayama, and Tottori Prefectures. Amazingly, it touches both seas around Honshu: the Seto Inland Sea to the south and the Sea of Japan to the north. There's some fantastic mountain scenery along the way, made better on this day because it had just rained and there were big puffs of misty cloud stuck to the top of the vivid green mountains. All this and hardly anyone else on board with me!
