We Are One-Mitakuye Oyasin

Описание: "We Are One-Mitakuye Oyasin" Virtual Choir features over 200 children singing in English and Lakota throughout the Black Hills and Pine Ridge Indian Reservation of South Dakota. The Sioux Nation considers the Black Hills to be the center of the world and a spiritual location. The wind in the beginning symbolizes the whispering pines and the ancient voices of the Lakota.
The White Buffalo Calf Woman is the giver of the sacred pipe and the seven guiding principles of the Lakota culture. The four colors: black, yellow, red and white represent the four directions and also the four stages of the Calf Woman. It is told that the White Buffalo Calf Woman will return at the last stage, white, to reclaim the sacred pipe and bring peace to the world. This project was designed as a "come as you are" community project. The children were recorded in make-shift studios at libraries, community centers and schools throughout five counties in Western South Dakota.
The project was designed to include children with no experience to more advanced. All children were welcomed. The children in State foster care were filmed with the camera focused on their hands and at the native drums. They were given temporary tattoos and bracelets so they can see their participation while keeping their identity secret.
