On January 29, a BJP workers’ meeting was held at Akhira village under the Rampurhat Assembly constituency in Birbhum district. To mark the occasion, BJP party flags and festoons were put up across the entire village. Local BJP leaders claimed that the party has a strong organisational base in the area. Unable to accept this, the Trinamool Congress allegedly became frustrated. It has been alleged that later, under the cover of night, BJP party flags and festoons were deliberately torn down and set on fire.

২৯ জানুয়ারি বীরভূমের (Birbhum) রামপুরহাট (Rampurhat) বিধানসভার আখিড়া গ্রামে বিজেপির (BJP) একটি কর্মীসভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। সেই কর্মীসভা উপলক্ষে গোটা গ্রামজুড়ে বিজেপির দলীয় পতাকা ও ফেস্টুন টাঙানো হয়েছিল। স্থানীয় বিজেপি (BJP) নেতৃত্বের দাবি, ওই গ্রামে বিজেপির সংগঠন যথেষ্ট শক্তিশালী। আর এই বিষয়টি মেনে নিতে না পেরেই তৃণমূল কংগ্রেস (Trinamool Congress) হতাশ হয়ে পড়ে। অভিযোগ, এরপরেই রাতের অন্ধকারে পরিকল্পিতভাবে বিজেপির দলীয় পতাকা ও ফেস্টুন ছিঁড়ে তাতে আগুন ধরিয়ে দেওয়া হয়।
