Tension remains dangerously high at President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine)’s residence in Magere, where security forces have maintained a heavy military and police deployment nearly a month after the disputed 15 January 2026 elections.
Speaking after being blocked from accessing the home, NUP Deputy President John Baptist Nambeshe said he led a team of NUP lawyers and MPs to check on the welfare of Bobi Wine’s family members amid the tightening security presence. Instead of being allowed to carry out the visit, the team was turned away—another sign, Nambeshe argued, that the situation has shifted from “security” to intimidation and control.
The pressure is escalating. Counsel Kakuru Tumusiime was reportedly violently arrested, as NUP leaders warn that senior party officials—including deputy presidents representing Eastern Uganda, North West, and Buganda regions—remain in jail on what they describe as trumped-up charges.
Nambeshe says the continued siege raises a blunt question: if the NRM government truly achieved an overwhelming victory, why keep Bobi Wine’s home under lockdown, raids, and a visible show of force? To NUP, the answer is obvious—this level of deployment does not project confidence; it signals fear, insecurity, and deep cracks in the credibility of the declared results. #JBMuwonge #Bobiwine #JBMuwongetalkshow #uganda
