Описание: Data is critical to solving any water security problem as it leads to practical solutions. Solutions to water security issues require a thorough understanding of the past, current, and future situation. Solutions to water security can be accomplished through data analytics such as statistical models, hydrologic models, or data visualization techniques to draw conclusions on status, trends etc. Data analyses can help planners locate hotspots of dangerous pollutants, understand how structures can be positioned within or near a flood plain, how water can be equitably allocated among various users in a water scarce area. Data is therefore highly useful for ensuring water security, but it requires that decision-makers also have the systems in place to collect, analyse, and set policy.
The importance of data for water security is occasionally underestimated and what water data to collect is often unclear. Additionally, the data value chain is rarely followed properly. Also, lack of appropriate tools / skills and open data at local, national and global levels present limited access and use of water data for water security. As part of enhancing water data access and use for water security, aeview has been made regarding the following: (i) importance of data for water security is (ii) What water data to collect. (iii) The data value chain, (iv) Appropriate tools / skills and (v) Open Data and Standards.
This presentation we therefore will evaluate ways of enhancing water data access and use for water security. It will highlight the findings of the assessment including (i)Limited awareness on the importance of data, (ii) proper data value chain approach , (iii) promjotion of open data (public data sharing), (iv) Limited capacity to analyse and use data for water security. Recommendations on how to address these findings of the assessment will be made.
