FOOD WASTE – Countdown to 2030: supporting cities to reduce Food Loss and Waste as a catalyst for agrifood systems transformation – 15 Oct 2025
A parallel session promoted by FAO (@UNFAO ) and UNEP (@UNEP), as part of the MUFPP Global Forum 2025 (13–17 October, Milan).
This session, part of the Food is Never Waste Coalition, highlights the pivotal role of cities in reducing food loss and waste to create more sustainable and resilient food systems. Drawing on insights from FAO and UNEP, it showcases practical experiences and collaborative approaches from markets, schools, households, and restaurants. National and global actors, including UN agencies, academia, the private sector, and financial institutions, discuss governance, financing, and partnerships that enable action. The session also explores co-benefits for healthy diets, climate adaptation, and urban resilience, aiming to identify concrete recommendations and multistakeholder strategies to tackle food loss and waste worldwide.
