On January 22nd, 1952, an American Airlines Convair 240 carrying former US Secretary of War Robert Patterson and multiple business executives crashed mere minutes from landing at Newark. The plane would be one of three to crash into the city of Elizabeth in a span of three months. This video focuses on the story surrounding these accidents, and the mystery of Flight 6780, whose crash remains unsolved to this day despite pressure and personal interest from the White House.

Footnotes:
Footnote 1: The Wikipedia article for American Airlines Flight 6780 claims that N94229 was named Flagship New Haven. This appears to be the result of some confusion regarding the aircraft shown in a picture at the top of the page. This aircraft has a registration of N94219, almost identical to that of Flagship Baltimore. The angle at which Flagship New Haven is photographed makes it easy to mix up the 1 in its registration with a 2 possibly explaining the confusion. Regardless, the 1950 photo from Chicago proves that N94229 bore the name “Flagship Baltimore”
Footnote 2: I am not entirely sure about the length or arrangement of these runways in 1952.
Footnote 3: The NYT claims takeoff occurred from runway 10 in its initial reporting on the 11th. Given that runway 24 was given in the final report, the description of the crash sequence and the fact that it was only two minutes between takeoff and the crash, prove this claim to be inaccurate. The NYT would correct this error in later reporting. (N9, Page 1)
