360 degrees

Towards the end of 2025 I felt a nudge to explore my whimsical chairs with a focus on conversations we have with others while seated in chairs. Heretofore these chairs have been stand alone, fun, and whimsical. With the nudge in late 2025 I decided to explore painting these chairs using colors and marks to express the emotions of the conversations I envision taking place in these chairs.
The personal value of painting these chairs is to be aware of the importance of face to face conversations; to connect with others as human beings.
I had no idea when I set out to write in my creative journal that this would come out of me:
Reflection- I think the biggest challenge for me in this exercise will be of getting in touch with my emotions. I tend to eat or drink them "away". . . currently in dealing with this administration's response to Renee Good's death...seeing her face minutes before her death through the phone camera of the man who killed her. . . the whole scenario of hate, fear, and abuse is wearing on me based on my personal experience. So I've had some wine and pizza this past week. Can I live with these emotions long enough to paint them with story?
I put that aside and began working on the Creative Assignments in a course I've been taking with an artist, Louise Fletcher.
I've only drawn/painted my chairs from the front view (my model is one of my living room chairs) and so that's where I began with the first sketch. THEN I was asked to draw it from another angle . . . and then another. Doggone it! As I began circling the chair I was reminded of the phone camera video circling Renee Good in her car. I knew I had to pursue this awareness . . . and so I began my collaged background. I'm not a collage artist, but I know it serves me well to simply remain open.
I've left the chair a bit ghostly in the final edition.
