About:
Rice Pilaf is a flavorful one-pot dish that’s perfect for any meal. It's typically made with rice, orzo, or vermicelli simmered in chicken broth and pairs well with meats like kabobs or any of your favorite sides. This dish is a staple in Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and Central Asian cuisines, where it's known by names like pilaf, pilau, or pulao.

Ingredients:

For Rice Pilaf:
1 cup Basmati Rice, or any long grain rice, washed
½ cup Orzo, or vermicelli
4 cloves Garlic, minced
½ large Onion, diced
½ tsp Paprika
½ tsp Coriander Powder
¼ tsp Black Pepper Powder
½ tsp Onion Powder
½ tsp Garlic Powder
2 tbsp Olive Oil
2 tbsp Unsalted Butter
2 Bay Leaves
3 cups Chicken Broth, or veg broth
Salt, to taste

For Garnishing:
Parsley Leaves, chopped

Recipe Notes:
1. Wash your Rice: Washing my rice is one of the first steps I prefer to do to remove any dust and debris. It helps to clean the rice and, by washing it a few times in water, removes excess starch, resulting in fluffy rice when cooked.

2. Toast the Orzo and Rice: I also recommend toasting the orzo and rice until they are fragrant. This helps the dish turn out flavorful and fluffy. Make sure to toast them separately, as shown in the recipe, for the best results. If you're using vermicelli instead of orzo, keep a close eye on it while toasting, as it can burn quickly.

3. Broth or Water: Even though you can cook most rice dishes in water, cooking them in broth delivers deep, savory flavors. I highly recommend using broth over water to make every bite delicious.

4. Cooking Heat Levels: Starting the dish on medium heat and boiling for a few minutes helps the flavors meld together. Then, cooking on low heat with a lid delivers a fluffy result and traps all the flavors inside. So I recommend this heat change for making a perfect rice pilaf.

5. Add-ins: This is the classic version of making rice pilaf. However, if you'd like to add some nutritious veggies, feel free to include green peas, carrots, and green beans for a healthy and colorful rice dish. Add them after sautéing the onion and garlic.

6. Use Fork to Fluff: Gently fluff your rice pilaf with a fork. This technique helps keep the grains separate and prevents them from breaking or clumping together, delivering a light and fluffy texture.
