In this week’s model railway update, I’ve been focusing heavily on the technical side of the layout — reorganising my iTrain control map, installing additional block detection, and continuing track work in the Japan section.
Originally the America layout map in iTrain was rotated in a way that didn’t match how the physical layout looked when viewed from above. By rotating and repositioning the entire map, the layout now makes far more sense visually and will allow all four countries to eventually appear together on one larger control screen.
I’ve also been expanding the block detection system using GBM8 modules so that iTrain can accurately detect trains, measure speed, and manage automation safely.
Another key improvement is separating the layout into independent power districts. This means that if a short circuit occurs in one area, the rest of the layout can continue running without shutting everything down.
