Coastguard HQ was originally named Boating School when Legoland Windsor Resort first opened back in 1996. It was renamed Coastguard HQ in 2015. The boats are manufactured by Garmendale who also make the cars for L-Drivers and LEGO City Driving School located in the same park area LEGO City

There are no height restrictions for Coastguard HQ but to ride unaccompanied guests need to be at least 1.3 meters (4 ft 3 in) tall. The ride last just under 5 minutes
