Quran 3:49 has Jesus (on whom be peace) in his own words saying, "And I give life to the dead by the permission of God." This verse sparked curiosity among Muslims, and they turned to the gospels to learn more. Yet Dr. Shabir Ally explains that in commentaries on the Quran, and in particular in Tafsir al-Qurtubi and Suyuti's Al-Dur al-Manthur, the details of Jesus' raising the dead back to life go even farther in the realm of the fantastical than the Gospels of Matthew and Mark and are given an Islamic flavouring.
Jesus, in his words, was given certain permission by God to perform miraculous deeds, including healing the blind, curing the leper, raising the dead back to life.
