This project is couple years old and is no longer supported in the latest Unity version.
A workaround would be open this project in an old version of Unity, generate the sprite from the .gif and then export the sprite sheet.

Unity handles most of the multimedia files pretty well.
But when you import a .gif file in Unity, it is imported as a simple texture file instead of an animation.
So I tried to write a custom importer for .gif file to preserve the animation property.
