Commissioned for the Longwell Green Orchestra to commemorate and recognise reaching their 100th anniversary in 2021

Formed by Alfred in the 1920s, this orchestra has been a beacon of hope and unity, providing solace to the musicians of Longwell Green, a small suburb south of Bristol, even during the darkest times of war.

The composition begins with a rousing fanfare, symbolizing the orchestra's triumphant journey to its centennial milestone. This vibrant opening sets the stage for a dynamic and emotive musical narrative.

The first movement transitions into a lively Charleston, whisking listeners back to the roaring 1920s when the orchestra was first established. This section captures the exuberance and optimism of the era, reflecting the joy and energy of a community coming together through music.

The second movement introduces the serene and contemplative strains of the hymn "There is a Green Hill Far Away."

This melody pays homage to the pastoral beauty of Longwell Green and the enduring spirit of its people, serving as a musical anchor through the years.
