Notes:
The extended techniques I use on the Pearl HipKit is a fusion of technique from various frame drums.
-The bass tone from the thumb is used in Brazilian pandeiro and tar (lap-style).
-Muted hand hit in the center of the drum is also from pandeiro and tar.
-Split-hand technique is found in Indian percussion, particularly in Kanjira, tabla, mridangam.
-Finger snaps are used with tars, bendirs, and other frame drums playing in the lap-position or upright (traditional grip)
-Finger strokes on the edge of the drum is a common/basic technique for many frame drums (Riq, Tar, Daf, Bendir, etc.) and percussion (Doumbek/Darbuka, tabla, Tonbak, etc.). Since the drumhead is slightly dampened and not tuned up higher, the sound ("Tak") is dull and short.
