Can evil really be turned into good?
In Genesis 50:20, Joseph says to the brothers who sold him into slavery:
“You meant it for evil, but God meant it for good.”
What does that mean?
Does it mean evil isn’t real?
Does it mean suffering is secretly good?
Or does it mean something deeper about divine redemption, human responsibility, and the limits of our perspective?
In this episode of Whole Bible Study, we explore:
• The Hebrew meaning of רָעָה (ra'ah, evil) and טוֹב (tov, good)• The significance of חָשַׁב (chashav, to plan or weave) in Genesis 50:20• The difference between moral evil and painful experience• Human accountability and divine sovereignty• Whether evil is ultimate — or temporary• How redemption works without excusing wrongdoing
This study addresses severe evil directly — abuse, betrayal, injustice — and asks whether redemption erases responsibility or deepens it.
Evil is real.
But is it final?
