PCV stands for positive crankcase ventilation and should be changed every 40 thousand miles. This part serves as a one way passage for gases to escape in a controlled manner from the crankcase. It also helps remove moister from the engine oil.
Failed valves will lead to potential engine oil leak, a whistle or other noise, or could cause the check engine light to turn on.
This replacement is on a 1984 GMC Jimmy with a 350 crate motor. Total cost is about $3.
