Tomatillos are pretty easy to grow - once you know how! There's a few important things to do to make sure you succeed with an awesome tomatillo harvest. Today I'll share the full journey and growing guide of these cool fruits, walking you through each step and showing you everything you need to know! I'll also show you how to make a delicious Salsa verde (green sauce) which will elevate any Mexican dish (I can't go without it now that I've made it myself with fresh ingredients!) I'm sure you'll love it too!
Salsa Verde Recipe
Ingredients:
10 tomatillos
1 brown onion
3 jalapeños
2 chilies (I used 1 bird's eye chili, 1 regular chili)
4 cloves garlic
A handful of fresh coriander (cilantro)
1 teaspoon salt
Method:
-Place the onion and 3 garlic cloves into a pot of boiling water. Cook until the onion is almost soft.
-While the onion and garlic are boiling, place the remaining garlic clove in a mortar and pestle with 1 teaspoon of salt. Smash until it forms a paste.
-Add the tomatillos to the boiling water. Cook until they change color and soften, which may cause them to split slightly.
-When soft, remove the onion, garlic and chilies from the boiling water. Transfer them to the mortar and pestle, and mash together with the garlic paste.
-Once the tomatillos are soft, transfer them to a blender along with the mortar and pestle mixture, a handful of fresh coriander, and ⅓ cup of water from the pot. Blitz until smooth. Enjoy :)
