BOSS GT100 overview
Just a quick video to give you the key points of the GT100, particularly how it differs from other Multi-FX and previous BOSS GT series pedals.
here comes my 100% personal viewpoint
The thing i really love about the 100 is how responsive it is.
I've always struggled to make multi fx respond like an amp when playing dynamically or rolling back the volume control on the guitar. Everything else i've ever played just has this 'quieter' less tonally pleasing vibe to them when turning the guitar down to clean up say a crunchy tone..something that we learn to instinctively do as guitar players when using an amp. This is something that i always struggled with with modelled versions as the "sweet spot" was often the only bit of the amp that was modelled...not the whole responsive range. I have played SOOO many multi FX because i'm not rich enough to own huge amounts of amps etc although i've been lucky enough to play some very gorgeous amps too (which i've sadly had to give back at the end of a studio session or show *sad face*)
The new (and i mean new) COSM methods employed by the Roland engineers in Japan, alongside the staggering processing power of a brand new chip means that they've been able to effectively map a true reflection of the way the amp responds depending on where it's gain and master volume are and how hard you hit your plank! This is perfect for me as i will never be rich enough to own all of the amps modelled here but at least when i use the 100 i can be sure that it doesn't mask my playing style/tone...if you know what i mean? I play with fingers and a pick with varying different degrees of intensity (and indeed skill, lol!) so it's nice that it doesn't mess with the reality of my playing...no matter how good or bad that may be, it's a true reflection and i don't know about you but i find honesty quite refreshing in this modern day of gimmicks!
You should try a GT100 if you haven't already. preferably one that has been set up properly (not just some of the stock sounds). When i first received the 100 i made a few videos with just the stock sounds and they really don't do it justice. I have since learned from these school boy errors! and i wish i could turn back time and do a better job of displaying how amazing this unit is.
One final note from me on the whole multi FX 'thing' is this..
Without them i would not have been able to practice as much, learn about effects and effects chains, attempt different styles of music. I would also have had no real way of capturing my guitar ideas to tape (yes a TASCAM 4 track was where my 'music' began). Without the demos i made using those first multi FX i wouldn't have been sent a BOSS GT6 and without that i wouldn't have made the music that ultimately lead to my childhood hero giving me a pat on the back for my efforts (thus completing my existance on this here rock).
So to all those people working hard to make us 'ordinarys' sound a little bit as good as the people we look up to and admire, i salute you and thank you deeply!
