Описание: Green Eggs and Ham Was Written on a Bet The famous $50 bet from publisher Bennett Cerf wasn't Dr. Seuss's first foray into constrained writing. He had previously written 'The Cat in the Hat' in 1957 using a vocabulary of only 236 specific words, a challenge set in response to a Life magazine article about childhood illiteracy. The 'Green Eggs and Ham' challenge, however, was far more severe. To win the bet, Dr. Seuss used a vocabulary of exactly 50 words—of which 49 are monosyllabic. The only word with more than one syllable in the entire book is 'anywhere'. This feat of lexical minimalism, born from a casual wager, resulted in one of the most iconic and beloved books in children's literature, selling over 8 million copies worldwide.
