George Rading is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nairobi. He obtained a PhD in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Alabama in 1994. His research focuses on the mechanical behavior of materials (metals, ceramics, polymers and composites). He is particularly interested in fatigue crack growth and how various processing parameters influence the same. Some of the current research he is leading seeks to understand the effects that welding has on the fatigue crack resistance of high strength aluminium alloys. He is also investigating the possibility of converting waste plastics and waste quarry dust into useful building products.
During the mini-conference, Prof Rading will speak on the Conversion of Waste into a Resource. The gist of the talk will be the parameters that will optimize the conversion of waste plastics and quarry dust into roofing tiles.
